Which Australian should be the ambassador for responsible drinking?

Geoff Huegill is now part of a new $1 million advertising campaign funded by the New South Wales Government and the liquor industry to deter young people from binge drinking. He will be profiled on ads that will appear in buses, pubs and on postcards.

Well, that is very noble. And he does seem like a pretty cool guy but will this stop anyone from actually drinking!?

What the flip does a ex-professional swimmer have anything to do with binge drinking at all? More to the point – a swimmer that is now back in training?

Maybe a professional football player or a rock star, who has lived a live of booze, drugs and excessive hedonism finally going clean might have a slight chance of changing my drinking behaviour. But Geoff Huegill?  A man that has spent the majority of his life waking up at 4am and not going out, what would he know about binge drinking at all?

I would like it if they used his pet monkey – Ted, in the advertising though.

My top 5 list of Australian celebrities that I would like to see promoting responsible drinking on bus backs..
